Week ending December 15, 2017

  • CoBA’s survey results in the “Great Colleges to Work For” taken this fall showed major improvements over our fall 2014 results. I attribute much of this improvement to faculty and staff efforts at understanding and improving the working culture of our college, including the excellent additions to our faculty and staff.

  • There were lots of end-of-semester presentations this past week, including 28 Senior Experience and eight MBA team projects. Two projects, Economic Impact of CSUSM Upon its Service Region, and the CSUSM Innovation Hub were independently solicited to present to President Haynes upon recommendations from others.

Celebrations of success:

  •  It is the time for end-of-calendar year celebrations, and we had our share! Following our successful CoBA Holiday Party, held at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, our fall 2017 Business Reception was highlighted by keynote speaker Mark Cafferty, President, and CEO, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. At a separate event, Malin Burnham was recognized for his establishment of the Burnham Leadership Experience. That program will fund three teams of students every semester in perpetuity.  Our well attended Business Reception, photos below, was followed by our Senior Experience Trade Show. Thanks to corporate sponsors EDCO, Tri-City Medical Center, and Wells Fargo Bank. Special thanks to Paige Kepley for orchestrating four successful VIP events in one day!

  • On an experimental basis, we held an abbreviated CoBA Advisory Board meeting followed by a social hour where our advisors mixed with some of our student leaders (below).

Week ending December 1, 2017

  •  Hedayat Alibeiki recently joined our faculty in the Department of Operations and Supply Chain Management from McGill University where he received his Ph.D. in Operations Management. Please join us in welcoming Hedayat to CoBA.
  • Our new Administrative Support Assistant, Casey Green, started Monday, Nov. 27th, 17. Please join us in welcoming Casey to CoBA.
  • Our Finance department held a special election last week and unanimously elected Professor Andreas Rauterkus as its chair. His term is effective January 17, 2018, through June 30, 2021. Please join us in congratulating Andreas and thanking him for stepping in.

  • Final amounts are not in yet, but we know we have been very successful in raising funds for CoBA students through Giving Day 2017. With a guaranteed match of up to $10,000 in total from CoBA and an equal match from the University for all gifts less than or equal to $1,000, most donor contributions are tripled. We hope to report final results next week. Thanks to all who participated!

  • This Thursday, December 14: 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm CoBA is hosting its biannual North County Business Reception in the USU. Enjoy complimentary beer, wine, and hors-d’oeuvres while listening to remarks from keynote speaker Mark Cafferty, President, and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Guests are also invited to attend CoBA’s Senior Experience Trade Show immediately following the Business Reception. This event highlights Fall 2017 research projects that senior business students have completed for sponsoring organizations.
